In Ontario, Publicly funded education is divided into three stages: early childhood education for children from birth to age 6; elementary level for students from kindergarten to grade 8; and secondary level for students from grade 9 to 12. Students can select different courses according to their own interest, aptitudes and needs. Higher education includes university, college and private tertiary educational institutions. As of 2018, Ontario has 22 public universities, 24 colleges, 17 private institutions eligible for degree grant, and over 400 tertiary educational institutions.
Based on interest and university program application requirements, students can choose 6 optional courses from the following: English writing, data management, computer and information science, accounting, international business, macro and micro economics, visual arts, human resources management, biology, law, etc.
