On October 14, 2024, we celebrated one of North America’s most important traditional holidays—Thanksgiving. The teachers and students at Dewey Institute shared a warm Thanksgiving dinner together. To ensure everyone could enjoy the most authentic holiday flavors, the school invited a local chef to personally prepare a traditional Thanksgiving turkey feast. The fragrant turkey, paired with classic holiday sides such as mashed potatoes, broccoli, and pumpkin pie, filled the dining hall with a festive atmosphere.
For international students, Thanksgiving is a holiday that is both new and unfamiliar. During the dinner, Principal Craig Shelswell gave a brief yet heartfelt speech, wishing all the teachers and students a happy Thanksgiving. His speech was filled with warmth, reminding everyone that no matter where they are, they should always keep a heart full of gratitude.
This dinner was not only a delightful culinary experience but also an opportunity to learn about Western cultural customs and etiquette. Through this holiday, students were able to immerse themselves more deeply in Western traditions and foster friendships and connections in a relaxed atmosphere. The entire evening was filled with laughter, as teachers and students shared a memorable and joyful night together.
The essence of Thanksgiving lies in gratitude and sharing, and this event provided everyone with an opportunity to express their appreciation. We believe that through such cultural exchanges, the teachers and students at Dewey Institute can not only deepen their understanding of one another but also grow together in the days to come, continuing to create beautiful memories that are uniquely theirs.
