On the evening of December 6th, the annual Santa Claus Parade made its much-anticipated return to the charming town of Bracebridge, filling the chilly northern night with the warm glow of holiday cheer. Despite the whistling winds and heavy snowfall, nothing could dampen the festive spirit. Almost every government office, business, school, and organization in town joined the parade, forming a cheerful procession along Manitoba Street, illuminated by twinkling lights and echoed by joyful laughter.
This year, for the very first time, Dewey students joined the festive fun as volunteers representing the Community Living Support Muskoka (CLSM) in this joyous event! Both faculty and students marched in the parade, while many others lined the streets, cheering and soaking in the festivities. To prepare for the event and to help students better understand and immerse themselves in the local Christmas culture, Ms. Katelyn organized a creative pre-parade activity. Together, students and teachers painted colorful, imaginative holiday signs filled with heartfelt Christmas wishes. The creative process not only fueled their festive spirit but also added a unique splash of charm to the parade.
The Santa Claus Parade is a beloved Canadian tradition, and every year before Christmas, locals of all ages eagerly claim the best spots along the parade route to enjoy the celebration. Even with snowflakes dancing in the air and the cold biting at their cheeks, the parade was filled with heartwarming moments: cheerful waves, warm smiles, and passersby handing out candy and blessings. Every little gesture seemed to melt the winter chill, leaving behind only warmth and joy.
Among the parade participants, Dewey’s students and teachers marched proudly, waving their handmade signs and celebrating the festive season alongside the town’s residents. For the students, it was an opportunity to embrace the warmth of this welcoming community, even in a land far from home. Their beaming faces reflected a sense of belonging, as though they were part of something much larger—a home away from home.
The cold couldn’t freeze their enthusiasm, and the snowy night only made the warmth shine brighter. Let’s take a moment to appreciate this extraordinary parade, its festive joy, and the efforts of Dewey’s students and staff, who brought their unique spirit to this cherished tradition, creating unforgettable memories for this holiday season.
May everyone find their own warmth and happiness during this magical Christmas season!
